Poll tapes are the first record created of how voters voted at a specific polling place. It’s crucial that we capture the numbers on these public records to verify the vote counts announced later. This is an essential check on our computerized voting systems. All you need is a smart phone!
Many states require poll workers to post the poll tapes outside the polling place, where the public can be view them. That’s where you come in.
We encourage all who can to take video of these vote totals after the polls close. This is the best way currently available to capture vote totals before they’re accumulated inside central tabulators. Comparing the vote counts on poll tapes with official results announced later provides an important check on our vote counts. Numbers that don’t match are evidence of a problem that needs further investigation.
Taking video of poll tapes is easy to do, yet it’s one of the most crucial tools in the election protection tool box.
We’re especially looking for democracy-loving volunteers in these Super Tuesday states where using Actual Vote is relatively straightforward:
Alabama Maine Massachusetts Minnesota
North Carolina Oklahoma Tennessee
If you live in a different state and still want to participate, please still attend the training! We’ll go over what you can do.
Come to this short training to learn more about why poll tape imaging is important, how and where to do it, and the impact it can have.
